LEAP OF FAITH

Outdoor community

Leap of Faith was  funded by the Birmingham City council as part of their 'Culture On Your Doorstep' scheme and delivered in partnership with Soul City Arts. Mohammed Ali of Soul City Arts had already used the back of Sparkhill Swimming Baths to create a huge graffitti mural on the rear wall of the building, which we couldn't help but be inspired by. And guess what, the title of the mural was 'Leap Of Faith'.

What the audience had to say.....

“liked how it moved in the space and opened up. Very interesting and diverse people there”

“funky and fabulous: want to have a go”

“really good fun, spectacular”

“Enjoyed, especially being outside”

“loved it!”

Standing proud in front of the mural is a large pyramid shaped spider web climbing frame just begging for some Circus to bring it to life. RoguePlay used Capoeira, Static Trapeze, Contemporary Dance, Acrobatics, Live Music, Spoken Word and even Slacklining, to tell a wonderfully romantic and comical story of three women fed up with life and searching for peace. A chance meeting with a mysterious man helps them face their fears but ultimately they must all take their Leap of Faith alone.

The lead up to the performances saw RoguePlay delivering three Open Rehearsals, to which audiences and those wanting to have a go could come to for free. The performances in Sparkhill Park were also followed by free workshops in Circus and Capoeira, delivered by RoguePlay as well as Graffiti workshops delivered by Soul City Arts. The performance reached an audience of 400 with over 100 participants.
